Issuing a Social Security Number (SSN)
SSN allows government agencies to identify individuals in their records and companies to track an individual's financial information. This is an analogue of the Tax Identification Number in Ukraine. Every permanent resident needs a social security number. An SSN will help you work in the United States, do business with a bank or financial institution, pay taxes or be listed as a dependent on your tax return, and for other purposes.
How to issue a non-work SSN?
People who are in the United States legally and have a visa that allows them to work must apply by contacting Social Security.
